First Impressions

First impressions in people are just as important as they are in our show windows! Your personal dress sense can help speak for your personality and character too. Here are some general, 'all-weather' pointers in styling and fashion that can help you sport your best look every day, always keeping the current and hot trends in mind, of course: -

  • When in doubt, it is always better to be overdressed than underdressed. For example, if you aren't certain about how you are to dress for the barbecue party that your boss is throwing (Is it considered a business event? Or is it a casual backyard party?), it would be better to err on the side of caution and overdress-in this case, you would go for business casual rather than backyard casual.
  • A neatly trimmed hairstyle is essential. That is, irrespective of the actual length of your hair, what is important is that your hair needs to be cut neatly. It may be good to remember that at the end of the day, certain hair styles like a surfer-boy type styles really does not appear very serious or professional. So, unstructured hair styles will not do it for you.
  • Facial hair if any needs to be well-kept - manicured if you will. Men without beards need to be really clean-shaven. If you do opt for sporting the bearded look, do keep it very short, trimmed and extremely neat at all times. Additionally, nose and ear hair too need to be controlled.
  • Stay with the trends regardless of your age, although the choices should be suitable, comfortable and befitting your persona. There are trends in fashion for every season that chalk out the prevailing clothes at any given point in time. Don't forget: To always be in vogue is to feel and look young and fresh.
  • Go easy on the aftershave and cologne. Some men go overboard on this at times as they assume that more is better. However, subtlety is the key here. Smelling fresh and pleasant is the way to go, without any sense of overpowering.
